A light and earthquake-proof material

The specific weight of glulam is 480-500 Kg/m3. A large span roof has roughly a weight ranging from 30 to 40 Kg/m3, while the roofing  structure of a villa has a weight of 10-20 Kg/m2.
Glued laminated timber has the best resistance/weight ratio (see below) and hence the highest static quality:
 Glued laminated timber 0.311
 Reinforced concrete 0.036
 Steel 0.204
Glulam allows Canducci to cover large spans. It is elastic and earthquake proof. This material reduces the load on the foundations and the related costs, especially on weak soils.
Moreover it is important to know that using glulam you don’t run the risk of  having cracks in the walls.
As for the logistic aspect, it has to be said that glulam transportation is very easy. One truck can transport a huge number of beams that are necessary to install a great roof surface.
Glulam structures are installed without the additional use of binding agents, so that they can easily be installed and taken down. Each element can be re-used.
