For centuries timber architecture belonged to ordinary people and its presence went through numerous epochs and numerous lands, from the medieval and renaissance European cities, to the colonizers running for the new west lands in America, up to the Asian and African population.
Over the last 20 years, in our country, the use of timber in the building industry has noticeably increased. The sectors involved are not only the traditional ones, such as flooring and that of shutter elements, but those of the bearing structures and the outer and inner covering, too.
Timber has the same resistance/weight ratio of steel but while timber is fire resistant, steel not. Timber easily allows to realize earthquake proof structures. The dimensions and the forms of the structural elements are influenced no longer by the trunks’ dimension. Timber has an optimal thermal and sound behavior and a centuries-old durability.
